Ruben Martinez: Artist/Illustrator

Ruben Martinez had his first solo exhibition at The Artery on August 25th, 2018.

Ruben Martinez (b. March 28, 1981 in Los Angeles, CA) began drawing at a very young age and his love for art grew—from a steady diet of video games, Saturday morning cartoons, and MAD magazine. As a teenager, Ruben developed an obsession with surrealism, religious art, and dark art. That obsession is still alive and well today and is expressed through the self taught hand which works mostly in pen and ink, with the occasional detour into oil painting. Using a form of automatic drawing, he allows his creations to slowly be pulled from the subconscious. The worlds he creates and the beings that populate them, can be described simply as surreal.
